"Going Rogue", new digital painting

Rogue has to be one of my most favorite characters to draw or paint... Well, I've got a new Rogue piece to share! I'm stretching myself a bit beyond the style that I've become so accustomed to over the years, trying to move away from the heavier "line" style of more traditional comic book art. I'll always love the comic art style, but I've always wondered just how far I can take a more traditional "painterly" approach - I'm going to continue to work towards a blend of the two until I come up with something that I like. Thanks so much for taking your time to check it out.

I often receive questions about my painting process. For this piece I've taken a new approach, in that I'm jumping back and fourth between two different pieces of hardware to achieve the final design. I work on both an iPad Pro (in Procreate 3) and on my standard desktop/Cintiq (in Photoshop in this case) to maximize the time I have to get the piece done. Some of it was painted over lunch breaks at work, some of it in the evenings or early morning at home.

It used to be that I'd always start a piece with a traditional pen and ink drawing, but with the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil, it feels so close to traditional drawing that I'm able to skip the more traditional route. I find this to be a huge time saver.
